OUR OBJECTIVES

The Association works for the preservation of human dignity, the respect for all human rights in their universality and their globality and for the protection, the defense and the promotion of these rights. The Moroccan Association of Human Rights (MAHR) aims notably:
- To raise awareness, diffuse and educate on human rights.

- To Work for ratification by Morocco of all international pacts on human rights, for the integration of their provisions in Moroccan law and its compliance with these pacts and to ensure abiding them by the law.

- To notice, denounce and condemn any human rights violation and work to put an end to them.
- To provide solidarity, uphold and support for the victims of the violations.

OUR PRINCIPLES:

The MAHR action is based on the 6 following principles:

The universality of human rights: the MAHR considers human rights as the patrimony of all humanity that should be a benefit to all human beings. Thereby, the international Human Rights declarations, pacts and conventions constitute the unique referential of its action.
The globality of Human Rights: the MAHR defends human rights in their indivisibility and believes that these rights can’t be effectively and efficiently respected without extending their respect to all fields: political, civil, economic, social and cultural.

The mass Action: The MAHR considers that the action for human rights can not be the work of the elite, but one of all citizens and primarily those who suffer from their violation.

The independence: In its activities, the MAHR is independent of any political organization, whatever its orientation, and any power, whatever its nature.

Democracy: both for its internal activities and for its relations with national and foreign human rights organizations, the MAHR is based on democratic principles; the MAHR also considers that the respect for human rights in their universal and global acceptance can effectively and efficiently take place only within a society where there is political, economic, social and cultural democracy.

The progressist nature of the MAHR: The defense of human rights in accordance with the previous principles objectively categorizes the MAHR among the progressist movement both at the national and international level.

OUR MEANS OF ACTION
To achieve its objectives, the MAHR uses all legal means including:
- The establishment of Reports and memorandum claims.
- The various means and methods of information and communication.

- Conferences, roundtables, symposiums, universities and various training and sensitization activities.
- The artistic, cultural, sportive, recreational and camping activities aiming at spreading the human rights values and standards.

- The establishment of relations, the coordination and the exchange of experiences with any organization with the same objectives within or outside the country.

- The creation of centers related to the MAHR to serve its objectives.
- The intervention to officials and to the concerned responsible in order to protect and ensure the respect of human rights, to support and bring justice to victims of violations.

OUR HISTORY
Since its creation on 24 June 1979, four phases have marked the history of MAHR:
From 1979 to late 1983: the establishment of a number of sections and the beginning of a dynamic action stopped by repression.
From 1984 to 1988: a period of the MAHR activities stagnation and freezing because of repression directed against the Association and against several of its leaders and activists.
From 1988 to late 1991: phase of renewal and implementing the MAHR strategy based on clear principles and trends; holding the 2nd Congress of the MAHR in March 1989 and its 3rd congress in December 1991.
From late 1991 to nowadays: the period of rise and development of the MAHR which held regularly its congresses every 3 years up to the 8th congress held in April 2007.

THE MAHR 8th CONGRESS
It was held from 19 to 23 April 2007 with the participation of 388 members of congress - including 38% of women - 55 observer members of the MAHR and more than 30 heads of friend organizations invited to follow the progress of the congress.
The 8th congress was a great success regarding the number (19) and the quality of the documents (moral and financial reports, amendments of statutes, general resolution and 15 other resolutions and recommendations) adopted in quasi unanimity of members of congress as by the uninominal secret ballot of the Administrative Committee composed of 75 members a third of them are women.
The Administrative Committee elected a Central Bureau composed of 21 members among whom a third is women who in turn elected a woman president, an unprecedented event in the MAHR history.
Fifteen heads of friend organizations from abroad participated to observe the progress of the congress. And in the margin
of the congress, the Bureau of the Maghreb Coordination of Human Rights Organizations (CMODH) held a meeting.
